I've got a blog going right now announcing the calendar (and eventually the dates for my lecture tour). Soon, maybe within a couple days, there will be a proper web site to order the calendar. For now, we have eBay.
I'm sorry I missed you in Cambridge, MA! I've been to the Longfellow house many times, and I've even published a poem about Longfellow's statue in nearby Longfellow park. I didn't hear about the Brattle Street event, and just found out about this site. But I would like to buy your calendar.
Congrats, that's great news! But now you must remove the mask, Midnight Dreary and reveal your name (I know who it is) so all can know who created the calendar and how to get in touch with you outside of this Poe Community.
I know for certain I want one on my desk next year, and if you want, I'd be glad to list it on the EdgarAllanPoe200.com site's Marketplace page, which will be published soon.
Just in time for the anniversary of Poe's death (timing is coincidental, I swear)... I'd like to give a quick gratuitous plug. As of today, I am officially a published Poe author: a limited edition Edgar Allan Poe Bicentennial Calendar, on sale beginning this month in Philadelphia gift shops (in Baltimore as of January, I hope) and through me at a wholesale rate.
The calendar is meant to celebrate Poe every day in his 200th year. Each day celebrates an anniversary relating to Poe and his entourage. Early reviewers (and Poe experts) refer to this day-to-day desk calendar as a Poe biography - presented in a slightly unusual form.
To celebrate my "book" being published, I am scheduling a series of get-togethers and lectures. All events are free.
October 9 (to celebrate the publication of Poe's first obituary) at 6:00 p.m.: "Poe's Longfellow War" - A lecture about the "war of words" exchanged between two of the heaviest hitters in 19th century American poetry. Longfellow National Historic Site, 105 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA.
November 22 at 2:00 p.m.: "Poe's Longfellow War" - A fuller discussion of the above topic held at the German Society on Spring Garden Street (near corner with 7th Street) in Philadelphia. Sponsored by the Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site. FREE.
DATE TBD - "Poe's Longfellow War" - I'm not sure if this is an open event or not yet, but it will be the same full-length discussion that I gave in Philadelphia, probably some time in January. Sponsored by the Peucinian Society at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine.
If anyone can help, I'm also looking to lecture in places like Providence, RI and Baltimore, Richmond, wherever. Let me know if you know a place/organization.
This calendar is for sale only in select locations but anyone in any of the Poe groups I frequent are interested, I will sell it at my "friendly" cost, plus shipping. Just let me know.
