Thanks for your comments...you know, Poe really was a genius, and those who knew him in life often wrote about his amazing mental faculties. If you haven't already, read Edgar A Poe and His Critics by Sarah Helen Whitman. I'm going to be scanning the whole book and making it available for download here soon.
As a relatively new fan of Poe, I would like to see schools take on a challenge to introduce their students to the works of Poe. To me, Poe was a true spiritualist who saw nature intertwined with life, and strove to understand happiness and sorrow, harmony and turmoil, good and evil. He was an amazingly deep thinker, and my only regret is that I did not discover his talents earlier. Thank you, Garth, for bringing Poe to me!!
My favourite poem so far is "Dream within a dream".
