I actually like Vincent Price but I think he over acted in most of Corman's Poe films. I did watch the premature burial and it was quite good. I am shocked that there hasn't been more interest in trying to remake them to a different/better standard. I will watch them regardless just because of what they are.
Well, it's definitely not easy to take a ten-page story and make a 90-minute film out of it. Sometimes I wonder why they try. I'm not convinced that Corman's movies are even true to the spirit of Poe (though certainly true to the spirit of cheap B-movie horror). My favorite is The Premature Burial because it does seem to complement the source material well without making a joke out of it. The fact that Vincent Price wasn't in that one is, I swear, a coincidence in making my judgment!

They all stray so much- I imagine if he stuck with the straight plot it wouldn't make for much of a movie for most people. I still have 4 more to watch- will save a few for next weekend.
I think this was one of the more tolerable Roger Corman adaptations of Poe. It was very entertaining, though it definitely strayed from the source material. I thought the addition of the pseudo "Hop-Frog" adaptation in there was a little silly, especially with Trippetta (sp?) being played by a child with a dubbed older woman's voice - quite distracting.
I never understood what they were going for at the end either... a convergence of many differently-colored robed figures. The Masque of the Rainbow Death, perhaps?

I just watched Mask of the Red Death with Vincent Price- I really enjoyed by the plot is always changed som much In Corman's films. I guess this is done to keep our interest and make for a more "significant" film but sometimes it frustrates me.. Anyone have any comments/thoughts?
