RE: Poe-inspired films

Spirits of the Dead, the 1968 European anthology movie, has a relatively faithful adaptation of "William Wilson".  Its "Metzengerstein" is not all that faithful, mostly a trial run for the eye candy of the principals later Barbarella.  Its "Toby Dammit" is not very close to its source, "Never Bet the Devil Your Head", but it's still fun.

The whole project probably isn't any closer to Poe than the Corman films, but it adapts some stories not done by other movies.

What does this movie have to do with Poe? Tell-Tale features a man who gets a heart transplant - and his new heart turns out to be from a murder victim, and the heart drives him to find the murderer. Sound like "The Tell-Tale Heart"? No? Well, that's what the filmmakers are claiming!

Tell-Tale
is, of course, the latest in a series of films that take advantage of the Poe name without concern for Poe's work - a trend that dates back at least, what, 75 years?

But, while we're on this topic, has anyone seen any truly faithful renditions of Poe's works on screen they recommend? Any really bad ones we shouldn't go near?
